  10. thesarcyone41 said: @a-standard-salmon Fair enough. I am also a dumbass so at least we have that in common.
  11. a-standard-salmon said: @thesarcyone41 Yes, and? I’m a dumbass with mostly bad tastes. That doesn’t make accusing content creators or their fans of being lazy because it’s “not technically satire” any less pedantic or whiny.
  12. thesarcyone41 said: @a-standard-salmon You are the one commenting on an anti-cinemasins post about how much you disagree with it. In this context, you’re the one who came over with nothing better to bitch about.

  14. a-standard-salmon said: @thesarcyone41 And honestly, Jeremy is very big on mental health stuff, he wrote a book about disabled superheroes, they’re fucking middle aged white lefties, some people in Hollywood including major critics actually like them, and the majority of comments on any video say “came here to laugh” like I do, not get actual movie reviews. Do you have nothing better to bitch about?
  15. a-standard-salmon said: @thesarcyone41 Jesus Christ, okay. Here were go. First, they do miss actual storybeats, sometimes on purpose sometimes accident. They have a team of writers and email eachother sins. Second, whether or not it technically counts as satire, they have a podcast where they regularly disagree with most sins from there videos. Now you can say that doesn’t exonerate the videos, but it does show the videos are are basically shitposts.
  16. thesarcyone41 said: @a-standard-salmon the example of a serious sin they used was literally one of the sins that showed they weren’t paying attention to the film. So clearly even THEY don’t know when they’re supposed to be satire and when they aren’t. Satire by definition has to be clearly distinctive from what it’s satirising in order to avoid contributing to it, and Cinemasins quite frankly embarrassing attempts at serious sins push them out of the criteria.
  17. thesarcyone41 said: @a-standard-salmon Yes, none of it matters because they mix in genuine criticisms, because that’s what stops it from being satire. I don’t know why you fanboys can’t get that simple fact through your heads. And quite frankly if you think missing story beats is deliberate, you’re gullible as heck. Even in their recent “Everything Wrong With Cinemasins” video, they gave examples of a deliberately dumb sin and a serious sin… But
  18. a-standard-salmon said: @thesarcyone41 Buddy, besides the fact that humor is subjective. And their satirizing a specific type of film fan, not movie criticism in general. A normal cinemasins video gets multiple basic story elements wrong on purpose, occasionally confuses well known actors, then make actual joke sins, but none of that matters because sometimes they point out actual gripes, really? Also, you realize they’re on good terms with actual critics and stuff right?
  19. thesarcyone41 said: @a-standard-salmon Except the fact that it is SIMILAR to reality but not ACTUAL reality, which is what makes it satire. Cinemasins mixes genuine criticisms with “jokes”, which is not the same thing. And most of their actual attempts at criticism are awful and could easily be solved just by paying attention to the fucking film. It’s just cringey bullshit - if they’re trying to be funny, that only highlights their failure.
  20. a-standard-salmon said: @thesarcyone41 Yah I’ve heard that take before, and have you actually read the Onion? Or watched them? “Scientist remind world leaders renewable energy ready whenever” is uh, depressingly real. Or their article about mass shootings they put out after actual shootings? Like maybe real stuff can be funny or fucked sometimes huh?
  21. thesarcyone41 said: @a-standard-salmon If The Onion had real news mixed in with the fake stuff, it wouldn’t be satire. Cinemasins is not satire, it’s just incredibly poorly written and they just think declaring themselves as satire will make them immune to criticism, but that’s not how it works.
  22. a-standard-salmon said: @footballintuxedos That’s weird cuz the cinemasins guys have even said, a couple times, they write sins they think a basement dwelling “critic” would complain about. Ie a few legitimate complaints and then a couple about how the hot female lead is still technically wearing clothes.
  23. a-standard-salmon said: @thesarcyone41 It uh, it is though. Even in their podcast they talk about movies a lot differently. They’ve said repeatedly the sins are what they’d a imagine a basement dwelling “critic” noticing. Ie legitimate criticisms and also “why won’t pretty girl date me”.
